Forgot to mention that after Skirball event Wednesday night, I was starving. So, taking Sepulveda all the way home, I tried to figure out where to go to satisfy my hunger pangs and what places were still open. Restaurants seem to close a lot earlier these days. Anyway, it was 9:30 when I arrived here. I went inside and ordered at the counter and struck up a conversation with 2 women that were waiting too. One of them started to engage me in a political conversation but I was all "UH UH, NO THANK YOU "...so I made my order to go. ;)) I remembered to make sure my sides of fried onions and tomato were wrapped separately to avoid my burger bun being mushy and falling apart when I got home. The steak burger with cheese, which I haven't had in years, was delicious! I thought, as I sat down at my dining room table, how glad I was that I didn't engage in a political discussion! Apple Pan, a neighborhood icon, is always a good choice. They are open until 11p.

We went on a Saturday and parking in the nearby neighborhood was easy. The hickory hamburger was excellent and I almost wanted to order another one. It was Smokey and the produce on the hamburger was fresh. My daughter loved her grilled cheese sandwich. The order of fries was plenty for the both of us to share with many leftover. We enjoyed dining outside on the patio in the shade. The indoor dining area was cute but seemed a bit stuffy for what we wanted for the sunny day. The apple pie was good. We got it with a side of ice cream and it was perfect.

Been here twice, always nice. We like pie in this house and the burgers are great! Chelsea gave us some amazing advice to get the Hickoryburger, but ask for the Steakburger sauce on it instead to get the best of both burgers. There is only high top seating, but it moves fast enough that there is never too bad of a wait. There is an outdoor patio area as well, but I've always came here after dark so never got the opportunity sit in it. Such a good staple for a late night bite.

Apple Pan was established in 1947 in West LA. Not much has changed with Apple Pan. The most noticeable differences is that they accept Apple Pay/Credit Cards making it much more efficient and convenient. They no longer serve soft drinks in the paper cone. Seating is still done on a first come, first serve basis. You can expect to wait for awhile depending on the time of the day. The counter ladies serve ketchup for you on a separate plate for your fries. If you get a middle seat you can watch them cook your burgers in front of you. The burgers are very good in my humble opinion. You can order either a hickory burger or steak burger. They offer to upgrade it to a cheeseburger if you'd like. The hickory sauce has a very nice tangy flavor to it. There's a fresh crisp bite from iceberg lettuce with the pickles adding a sour crunch to the burger as well. It's just a good old-fashioned American style burger. The fries are very good here. It's not easy to find good fries that taste good or their own. These are your run of the mill basic french fries that are crispy and delicious. Make sure you don't fill up on fries as you'll want save room for the delicious pies served à la mode. The real star of the show are the pies. All their pies are homemade using old family recipes. I was told that the regulars enjoy the Banana Cream Pie and Apple Pie the most. I opted to get an Apple Pie with my wife and son shared a seasonal Strawberry Pie (Which was also recommended). The Strawberry Pie is so fresh and delicious. They use big pieces of fresh strawberries. This is the pie I would recommend you order if they have it. The Apple Pie is good, but it's your standard apple pan. It didn't Wow me! I enjoyed it nevertheless. I will definitely be back to The Apple Pan again. It was great eating experience.
